Campaign Update - March 2011

Last March Morpheus Theatre launched the Ready, Set, Create campaign to raise funds for a new rehearsal centre to be located in the Parkdale Community Centre. At the time, we optimistically hoped to raise $50,000 and move in to our new digs by the end of May 2010. Since that time, reality has set in. Renovations were not able to start until July and will likely not be finished before the end of April 2011 at the earliest. Volunteers came out and put in several hundreds of hours of hard labour to demo the existing space, and there has been some amazing progress over the past few months with the new structural beams and support columns being installed in December. Walls and doors are going up and are being painted, and all the other trades are being scheduled. Another positive note is that our first ever fundraising campaign raised over $30,000 for the Ready, Set, Create campaign, and another $12,000 directly in support of our productions.

We have all heard of too many construction projects coming in behind schedule and over budget. Unfortunately it seems that Morpheus has also fallen into that category. While we are busy looking for ways to defer aspects of the renovation, the current cost estimates are nearly $60,000 over our available funds. Right now the project team is busy looking at all possibilities to cut costs, secure loans, apply for grants, and get donations. While we all look forward to a time in the not too distant future when the new rehearsal space will be ready, we ask all of our patrons and volunteers, both new and loyal, to consider making a contribution to this project. No donation is too big or too small. Naming rights to the new centre and studios are even open for consideration.

Ready, Set, Create

Morpheus Theatre invites you to help us continue to create shows worth seeing in our new rehearsal and production space. By May 2011 we hope we will be moving into our new home located in the Parkdale Community Centre and we need your help. As we launch our first ever fund development campaign, we turn to you as our patrons, friends and volunteers, to help us create a facility where creation, community, and entertainment can be born.

*Your gift of $2500 could create office space and our new collaboration room.

*Your gift of $1000 could make us visible by mirroring our rehearsal hall walls.

*Your gift of $500 could help renovate the washrooms (even actors need to go somewhere).
