A Farce by Michael Frayn

Presented in 3 acts, with two intermissions.
This Production is recommended for ages 16 and up.

If you were to witness the process of bringing a play from script to stage, of course what you saw could be compared to a tightly run ship, a well oiled machine ... and in the case of Noises Off, a slippery slope of nonstop, high-energy fun.

In this raucous farce, everything that could go wrong goes very wrong, much to our amusement. We get to watch as a troupe of actors and their director struggle to put the finishing touches on the comedy “Nothing On.” During this play within a play, from dress rehearsal to 3 months in to performance, we are delighted with dropped lines, slamming doors, forgotten props, whisky, missed entrances, personality clashes, drama on a grand and pregnant scale, late starts and sardines; all of which conspire to keep you laughing.

Back by popular demand, Morpheus Theatre is proud to present Michael Frayn’s hysterical hit, Noises Off.

ROLES
Dotty Otley (F): A late-middle-aged actress. Forgetful. Dating Garry, though she attempts to make him jealous by meeting with Freddy. Plays the part of the house keeper.
Lloyd Dallas (M): Middle aged. The director of the play, Nothing On. Temperamental. One third of a Lloyd–Poppy–Brooke love triangle.
Garry Lejeune (M): 30's-40's. Considerable physical comedy. A stuttering actor, easily fired up, repeatedly tries to attack Freddy after believing that Dotty was cheating on him with Freddy. Speech affectations disappear onstage but are ever-present offstage. Always is stuttering and completing sentences with, "you know..." Dating Dotty.
Brooke Ashton (F): A young, attractive, inexperienced actress from London. Pays no attention to other performers, either in performance or backstage. One-third of a Lloyd–Poppy–Brooke love triangle.
Poppy Norton-Taylor (F): Young. The distraught and sometimes overwhelmed assistant stage manager. Emotional and over-sensitive, and envious of Brooke, whom she understudies. One-third of a Lloyd-Poppy-Brooke love triangle.
Frederick Fellowes (M): Middle aged. An actor with a serious fear of violence and blood. Gets nosebleeds easily. Often questions the meaning of his lines and moves. Blames himself often for things going wrong.
Belinda Blair (F): Middle aged. Cheerful and sensible, a reliable actress. She may have feelings for Freddy.
Tim Allgood (M): Young to Middle aged. An over-worked Stage Manager. Understudies Selsdon and Freddy.
Selsdon Mowbray (M): An elderly alcoholic man, with bad hearing, who hides his bottles onstage. If he is not in sight while rehearsing, the stage crew must find him before he passes out.

Rehearsals will take place over a 6-week period from August 2nd through September 16th (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays). Cast members will be expected to have learned their lines prior to the start of rehearsals. The read through will be on June 28th.

We will try to accomodate summer vacations, but ask that auditioners come prepared to commit to the rehearsal schedule.
