When Philip Markham, loving husband and children\u2019s\u00a0book publisher, agrees to allow his business partner to\u00a0borrow his fl\u001fat to romance his latest girlfriend \u2013 well,\u00a0that\u2019s when everything goes topsy turvy as only a\u00a0classic bedroom farce can and Morpheus Theatre\u2019s 20th\u00a0season has officially begun. All Philip really wants to do\u00a0is take his wife out for the evening and the conundrums\u00a0ensue as a parade of lovers begins to arrive to\u00a0what they believe is an empty apartment, perfectly\u00a0suited for their planned revelries. Cancelled plans,\u00a0couples not expecting anyone else to be home and the\u00a0unexpected arrival of a popular children\u2019s book author\u00a0promise to delight, and don\u2019t worry, once you have\u00a0your ticket booked that seat is yours, no one else will\u00a0ask to borrow it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Morpheus welcomes back this popular\u00a0Christmas season tradition with classic characters of\u00a0pantomime and \u001dfiction as everyone\u2019s favourite\u00a0detective solves the mystery at hand \u2013 young Dick\u00a0Whittington has disappeared! He was last seen\u00a0wearing lipstick, \u001dfishnets and high-heeled boots?\u00a0Holmes and Whitsun are on the case! Join us as we \u001fflip\u00a0genders, boo the villain and rejoice in the antics of the\u00a0saucy Dame, Maisie Luvaduck. A sloshingly good time\u00a0will be had by all. Case closed. Andrew Rally, a television actor of some renown, is\u00a0facing the role of a lifetime: William Shakespeare\u2019s,\u00a0Hamlet. He is also learning the ropes of an abstinent\u00a0relationship with his girlfriend and all while he has a\u00a0houseguest. The ghost of John Barrymore, who used\u00a0to live in Andrew\u2019s apartment, has moved back in,\u00a0garbed as the broody prince of Denmark himself and\u00a0he is not leaving until he has convinced Andrew to\u00a0strut the stage and play the part. Seances and\u00a0swordfi\u001dghts, love for his girlfriend and love for his fans; Andrew juggles it all while attempting to make this life\u00a0changing decision. Ruddigore<\/a><\/h2>\n

Written just after The Mikado, this comic operetta\u00a0from Gilbert and Sullivan brings more spectres and\u00a0spooky, musical fun to wrap up our 20th season.\u00a0As only they can, Gilbert and Sullivan parody\u00a0melodrama while at the same time employing some\u00a0of its classic elements \u2013 a poor and virtuous heroine,\u00a0a villain who steals her away, heros and faithful\u00a0friends. And we mustn\u2019t forget the ghosts who live in\u00a0the family portraits. Hidden identities, courtship\u00a0gone awry and a good old fashioned family curse\u00a0showcase such songs as \u201cIn sailing o\u2019er life\u2019s ocean\u00a0wide\u201d, \u201cWhen I\u2019m a bad Bart, I will tell taradiddles\u201d and\u00a0\u201cWhen a man has been a naughty baronet\u201d.\u00a0So don\u2019t risk being moody and sad, make sure you\u00a0have your tickets to Morpheus Theatre\u2019s 20th season\u00a0Gilbert and Sullivan operetta.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>

Morpheus G&S Junior Theatre School Program<\/h2>\n

Our Theatre School program will be returning for a fourth\u00a0year culminating in a production of Ruddigore on the set of our mainstage production in the Victor Mitchell Theatre at the Pumphouse Theatre next spring. All interested youth (whether children or grandchildren), ages 9-14, who wish to expand acting skills and challenge themselves with the lyrics and patter of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, should enroll forthwith in Morpheus G&S Junior! The theatre school program will run Saturday mornings from 10:00-11:30 beginning in Mid-October. This program is unique in that it focuses solely on the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, in conjunction with our theatre season. Classes will include professional instruction in Acting and Voice.
