The Morpheus Theatre Board of Directors<\/h1>\n

The Morpheus Theatre Society was established to oversee the operations of Morpheus Theatre.\u00a0 The society is comprised of individuals who are interested in promoting community theatre in Calgary.\u00a0 If you are interested in joining the society, just call the theatre at any time – membership is free!\u00a0 Morpheus Theatre is a non-profit organization – our primary sources of funding are ticket sales and grants.\u00a0 Please support Morpheus Theatre by encouraging people to come see our shows, or by joining us as a volunteer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n

Dave Sandy, Chair<\/h2>\n

Dave has been a Professional Geologist since 1997. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Regina. He is registered by both the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). He is a past President of the Saskatchewan Geological Society. He currently sits on the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG) Foundation and is a member of the Practice Standards Subcommittee of APEGA. He is currently President of a private company, Thomlyn Resources Ltd.<\/p>\n

In the Theatre world, he has performed for Morpheus Theatre as well as other Theatre companies in Calgary. Credits include Robin Hood and His Merry Men (Morpheus Theatre) and Tiny Tim\u2019s Christmas Carol (Workshop Theatre). He also completed 2 years of training with the Calgary Actors\u2019 Studio.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Margaret Harper, Vice Chair<\/h2>\n

When Margaret retired from the corporate world (with experience in project management and computer system development with a BSE Engineering and MBA), she finally had a chance to explore her creative side \u2013 and quickly found that she loved everything behind the scenes!<\/p>\n

However, when she joined the Morpheus Board in 2005, she found the perfect place to hang out with the creative crowd and to practice her back-stage skills. In the past few years, she has assisted with props, costumes, stage management and front of house duties for Morpheus and other local community theatre groups.<\/p>\n

She was also an active member in the Morpheus G&S Singers – a recreational community choir. Margaret is proud to be a member of such a well-run group and to have the opportunity to help with our consistently high-quality performances. In fact, she is so happily occupied with things theatrical that she wonders how she ever found time to do a \u201cnormal\u201d job.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Alex Ruelle, Treasurer<\/h2>\n

Alex has her CPA, CA designation and brings years of accounting experience to the board. Alex graduated from the University of Calgary in 2005 with a BComm in accounting and a minor in drama. Needless to say, she is thrilled to be combining her love of theatre and her love of money as the treasurer of Morpheus Theatre.<\/p>\n

Alex performs as often as her busy work schedule allows, having graced Morpheus\u2019 stage as a mute RCMP officer in Aladdin<\/em>, a bustling housekeeper in Beauty and the Beast<\/em> and a magic mushroom in One Bad Apple<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Mike Johnson, Secretary<\/h2>\n

Also known as Michael Johnson or Mustache Mike to avoid confusion with our other prolific volunteer names Mike Johnson (really, what are the odds?!)\u00a0 Mike joined the board in 2018, and can often be found helping Morpheus backstage.<\/p>\n

The other member of this husband-and-wife team, Mike is generally found quietly gathering props and set decor, while simultaneously lugging around piles of costumes.\u00a0 He also comes to us via Calgary Steampunk Assemblage attendance.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Tim Elliott, Director<\/h2>\n

Tim has been involved in community theatre for the over twenty years, and with Morpheus Theatre for most of that time. He has held positions on the Morpheus Board as Member at Large, Treasurer, Board Chair, and, most recently as Member-at-Large.<\/p>\n

Tim\u2019s special interest in theatre, and with Morpheus specifically, is Gilbert and Sullivan. Morpheus Theatre is Calgary\u2019s home to G&S operettas, and we have been presenting one a season since 1996! Tim has been involved in almost every Morpheus G&S production since 1999, and was instrumental in the formation of the Morpheus G&S Singers.<\/p>\n

Outside of theatre, Tim is a retired librarian from the local office of an international engineering consulting firm, and a part-time interpreter at Heritage Park.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Wayne Hunter, Director
\n<\/span><\/h2>\n

Wayne is an experienced teacher, program developer and performer. He holds a Bachelor of Education and a Masters of Education from the University of Alberta. He has participated in the development of programs for students across the learning spectrum and has led curriculum projects in post secondary education institutions.<\/p>\n

He has performed with community theatre companies in Edmonton and Calgary and has directed for the Edmonton Fringe Festival and Morpheus Theatre. Some of his stage credits include; My Fair Lady, Moon Over Buffalo and Death of a Salesman.<\/p>\n

Wayne has been a board member since 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Byron Hynes,\u00a0Director
\n<\/span><\/h2>\n

Byron has been on the Morpheus Theatre Board since 2015, and it is rare that you won’t see him involved in one way or another with our shows.\u00a0 He’s an enthusiastic Front of House Manager, a brilliant programme editor, and our in-house IT Guru.<\/p>\n

All we need to do now is get him on stage, and he’ll be a quadruple threat!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Christie Johnson,\u00a0Member-at-Large<\/h2>\n

Christie joined the board in 2018, and can often be found hosting a sewing bee for one of Morpheus’ productions – particularly any production that requires some kind of historical costuming!\u00a0 Christie has been tasked several times to do Victorian Era costumes, including our last 4 Gilbert & Sullivan Productions, Sullivan & Gilbert<\/em>, Iolanthe<\/em>, HMS Pinafore<\/em> & Princess Ida. <\/em>(Although to be fair, HMS was set in 1920s).<\/p>\n

Christie first appeared on our radar through the Calgary Steampunk Assemblage, who have attended our G&S Productions in full costume for years.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n

Sean Anderson, Artistic Director \/ Executive Producer<\/h2>\n

Sean Anderson is Morpheus Theatre\u2019s Artistic Director and one of its co-founders. He is active in Calgary community theatre as a Director and Producer, and even occasionally stepping on stage to perform. In addition to working with Morpheus Theatre, Sean has held board positions with Theatre Alberta and Front Row Centre Players, founded Calgary-ACTS (Calgary\u2019s Alliance of Community Theatres), co-chaired the annual CAT Awards for 8 years, and is currently the President of the Pumphouse Theatre.<\/p>\n

Awards \u2013 Sean has received CAT Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Administration (2005); Outstanding Direction of a Play (Lend Me a Tenor<\/em>, 2006; Noises Off<\/em>, 2013); Outstanding Production of a Play (Lend Me a Tenor<\/em>, 2006; Tuesdays with Morrie<\/em>, 2007; Rumors<\/em>, 2011; Death of a Salesman<\/em>, 2016; Shakespeare in Love, 2019); Outstanding Production of a Musical (The Pirates of Penzance<\/em>, 2008) and the Sandy Singer Award for Outstanding Contribution to Community Theatre (2005).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n
