2020\/2021 Season Productions<\/h1>\n

Join us for our TWENTY-SIXTH SEASON of Shows Worth Seeing. To maintain flexibility, we will be rolling out exact information for each production throughout the year.<\/p>\n

As we begin our second quarter century, we know that the season ahead will be unlike any that we have presented before. As with nearly everything this year, we will be exploring a variety of new delivery formats to meet the needs of our volunteer cast & crew and our patrons.<\/p>\n

We hope you will join us for another season of Shows Worth Seeing!<\/p>\n

TICKETS<\/h3>\n

ONLINE SHOWS will require one ticket purchased per device streaming the performance. Generally this is one ticket per household.<\/p>\n

IN-PERSON SHOWS will require patrons to pre-purchase their tickets so all groups\/families may be assigned seats physically distanced from other patrons. In-person shows will require one ticket to be purchased per patron.<\/p>\n

Updated ticket policies and safety practices will be published on our website in the upcoming weeks.<\/p>\n

SEASON SUBSCRIPTIONS<\/h3>\n

For the 2020\/2021 season, Morpheus Theatre will not be selling season subscriptions or flex passes.<\/p>\n

Subscribers from our 2019\/2020 season will be able to purchase discounted tickets to the productions of their choice and in the format of their choice. Subscribers will also be given the opportunity to purchase tickets for in-person seating before tickets are made available for general sale. Flex passes from the 2019\/2020 season may be redeemed for either in-person or online performances.<\/p>\n

PRE-PURCHASED TICKETS (The Pirates of Penzance)<\/h3>\n

All tickets that were purchased for The Pirates of Penzance<\/strong> have automatically been transferred to a gift certificate which can be used for the upcoming performance of Trial by Jury, Season Tickets for 2021\/2022 or any other Morpheus expense. Requests to exchange performance dates or seats will be accepted beginning in March 2021, and processed after we know if the in-person performance will need to be physically distanced. We appreciate your understanding and patience.<\/p>\n

Murder, If you Will (a Quarantine Murder Mystery)<\/a><\/h2>\n

It\u2019s November, 2020 – Covid-19 has been a reality for nearly a year. Pharmaceutical companies are racing to develop a Rapid Testing Kit and be the first to market. Pharmaceutical billionaire, Jack Wentworth, is found dead in his bed. Family and friends are gathered at the mansion to hear the reading of the will and figure out what happened. His private doctor declared he died of Covid-19 much to the surprise of his family, since they knew he was isolating and working in his bedroom without seeing anyone since they returned from a trip to the South Pacific island of Tonga.<\/em><\/p>\n

Was it Jack’s second wife, Cynthia? His son, Sheldon, who is struggling with gambling debts? His private doctor, who is having an affair with Cynthia? His business partner, Spencer Trace? The housemaid, Abby, who is in love with Sheldon? Or did Chives the Butler do it?<\/em><\/p>\n

Put your sleuthing skills to the test, pose your questions to the private investigator, and see if you can correctly determine the cause of death and the killer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>\n

A Christmas Carol – a Radio Play<\/a><\/h2>\n

December 16 – 23, 2020
\nA radio play by Philip Grecian, Based upon the novel by Charles Dickens
\nDirected by Sean Anderson<\/p>\n

A familiar story told as a radio drama, A Christmas Carol begins with a group of actors discussing the tale they will tell. They decide on an opening line, and the storyteller begins, transforming into the mean and stingy Ebenezer Scrooge as he speaks. The online presentation combines the actors, filmed in a recording studio, bringing multiple characters to life, with the addition of sound effects, original music and artwork.<\/em><\/p>\n

The original Dickens story is all here: Scrooge refuses a Christmas dinner invitation from his nephew, Fred, turns away charity workers raising money for the poor and bullies his clerk, Bob Cratchit. Jacob Marley makes his visit while the sound effects crew shakes chains and the music director plays eerie chords. Then his evening continues with visits from the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, where he learns valuable lessons about life, family and the spirit of Christmas.<\/em><\/p>\n

We are planning on presenting this production as an online video. We hope you will share this perennial holiday favorite with the entire family this season!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>\n

You have been invited to attend an exclusive online promotional event for Awakenings Spa. What was once a hot spot for celebrities, politicians & oil and gas tycoons is now a DYING business. In celebration of the spa’s tenth anniversary, the owners are offering amazing deals to get customers to return after a year devastated by Covid-19 restrictions. If something should happen, you will be called in to put your detective skills to the test and help solve a murder.<\/em><\/p>\n

Each performance will be 100% live and interactive (from the comfort of your home). Ask your questions, have some fun, and see if you can correctly determine the killer and motive.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>\n

\nMusic Direction by Winnifred Hume<\/strong><\/p>\n

Can you sue someone for breaking off an engagement? In Gilbert and Sullivan\u2019s courtroom farce\u00a0Trial by Jury, it\u2019s a very serious crime! <\/em><\/p>\n

The fickle defendant, Edwin, has fallen in love with another woman and has jilted the plaintiff, the beautiful Angelina. Unfortunately for Edwin, all of the members of the jury (and the judge) have fallen for Angelina themselves. Edwin proposes that in order to solve the conflict, he \u201cmarry this lady today and the other tomorrow,\u201d which, naturally, Angelina objects to. This delightfully ludicrous one-act is a bite-sized portion of Gilbert and Sullivan\u2019s signature witty lyrics, catchy tunes, and ridiculous plotlines. <\/em><\/p>\n

Unlike most Gilbert and Sullivan shows, there is no spoken dialogue.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>

Morpheus G&S Junior Theatre School Program<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Morpheus Theatre will be looking to restart our G&S JR program in Oct 2021.<\/p>\n

Strike up the band for one of Gilbert and Sullivan\u2019s most beloved operettas! The Pirates of Penzance combines whimsy, light-hearted satire and piratical characters with stirring music, including the iconic \u201cMajor-General\u2019s Song\u201d. This is the play that cemented the comic-pirate theme in popular culture, a theme that has lasted through more than a century and spawned countless movies and novels. Jam-packed with sentimental, swashbuckling pirates, a completely dotty Major General and a bumbling bunch of hopeless but hilarious policemen, what could possibly go wrong?\u00a0 To add to the topsy-turvy nature of G&S, Morpheus will be flipping the genders of all your favourite characters.<\/em><\/p>\n

Our 2021 Season plan is to complete our 2020 season and present THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE in the spring. Currently, our registrations are only open for the students from our truncated 2020 season.<\/p>\n

We will be continuing to offer both a Junior class for students 9 to 12 years old, and a Senior class for students 13 to 17 years old. The program gives youth an opportunity to expand their acting skills and challenge themselves with the lyrics and patter of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. The Senior class will also include more advanced acting skills and choreography.<\/p>\n

Both classes will run Saturday mornings from 10:00-11:30 beginning in mid-October. Classes will include professional instruction in Acting and Voice and the program will culminate in two\u00a0youth performances on the set of our mainstage production in the Victor Mitchell Theatre at the Pumphouse Theatre.<\/p>\n
