Death of a Salesman<\/a><\/h2>\n

This is a story about dreams and reality and the vast chasm that can exist between the two. It is about the drive to success no matter the cost, success as defined by someone else as Willy Loman pushes to be everything to everyone. He strives to be the perfect employee, racking up sales and making the company money, the perfect husband, providing for his wife and family and the perfect father, idolized by his two sons. But the face beneath the mask is seldom as bright and untouchable as projected and Willy is tired and confused. The world he built is crumbling and reality is peeking in through the cracks. This is Miller’s masterpiece, a Pulitzer prize winning play \u2013 tragic and raw, at once sweet and sad, our season opener brings this classic to life to explore its lives, themes and its dreams; all of which are still relevant and present in our own today.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>\n

The Sleeping Beauty<\/a><\/h2>\n

You know the story: the beautiful princess is cursed by an evil fairy to prick her finger on a spindle on her 18th birthday and die. Nothing says \u201cwelcome to the world\u201d like the well wishes of a wicked spell caster who wasn’t invited to the party. You know the characters: the Princess Aurora and her royal parents, the good fairies, the evil fairy and her cat Spindleshanks and of course, the dashing Prince who saves them all from their perpetual slumber. But this isn’t your ordinary slumber party, this is Pantomime! Oh yes it is! And you know what that means \u2013 flip flop boys with girls and girls with boys – and is that a Queen or a Dame? It’s both! It’s all topsy turvy fun and games but some things ring true always and it’s true love’s kiss that will save the day this December. We hope you’ll take a break from the hustle and bustle and join us and the zombies for this family friendly holiday tradition.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>\n

The Dinner Party<\/a><\/h2>\n

Ah, Paris! The city of lovers, museums, romance, art and haute cuisine. It is a marvel, a delight and a mystery is unfolding in the city this evening. Six people have been invited to one of the fanciest restaurants in the city, but no one knows why they have all been brought together until one guest at a time, we learn the guests are 3 divorced couples. Most of whom are formally dressed and bewildered at the circumstances they find themselves in. Through memories and hurt feelings, in this glamorous restaurant in Paris, they find themselves in a moment; a moment that offers them a chance to talk, to feel, perhaps even to reconcile and all this before they are even seated at their table. Will they all stay for dinner in the end? Will they open up to love again? Join us in January as we host this evening of love, heartbreak, confessions and laughter. Sullivan and Gilbert<\/a><\/h2>\n

April 29th to May 14th, 2016

From the playwright who brought us Lend Me A Tenor<\/em> comes a playful twist on our mandate to bring the best of Gilbert and Sullivan to Calgary audiences. In this delightful behind-the-scenes romp we get the best of the duo musically and in the flesh, when we meet the famous partners themselves! The story opens on a time when things were not all roses, in 1890 when they had been feuding for years. They are forced to work together one more time to bring their greatest works to life for Queen Victoria and so, we are treated to treasured pieces from The Mikado<\/em>, Ruddigore<\/em>, Iolanthe<\/em> and The Pirates of Penzance<\/em>, among others. Fans of Gilbert and Sullivan will be thrilled by Sullivan and Gilbert, for we have a song to sing, O! – several of them, in fact and we do hope you’ll join us for the joy! (And the rapture!)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>

Morpheus G&S Junior Theatre School Program<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Morpheus Theatre is pleased to announce that the G&S Junior Theatre School program is growing. After 4 successful seasons, the Juniors are making room for more teenagers to participate in our program.<\/p>\n

Starting in October 2015, we will be offering both a Junior class for students 9 to 13 years old, and a Senior class for students 14 to 17 years old. The program will continue to be led by Michelle Brandenburg and Naomi Williams and give youth an opportunity to expand their acting skills and challenge themselves with the lyrics and patter of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. The Senior class will also include more advanced acting skills and choreography.<\/p>\n

Both classes will run Saturday mornings from 10:00-11:30 beginning in mid-October. Classes will include professional instruction in Acting and Voice and the program will culminate in two\u00a0youth performances on the set of our mainstage production in the Victor Mitchell Theatre at the Pumphouse Theatre.<\/p>\n

Cost: Juniors – $350, Seniors – $400
