Morpheus Theatre is excited to welcome our patrons, subscribers, artists and volunteers back to LIVE THEATRE for our 2021 – 2022 Season of Shows Worth Seeing!
In the year ahead we will be presenting lots of laughter and familiar stories – some with a twist – as we return to the stage at the Pumphouse Theatre. To ease us in, our fall production will have limited capacity and physical distancing. For those not ready to join us live, and in-person, all other productions will include an option to purchase an online ticket and view the show from the comfort of your home. We look forward to seeing you at the theatre!
No Sex Please, We’re British

October 8 to 16, 2021 (limited capacity with Physical Distancing)
A young bride who lives above a bank with her husband who is the assistant manager, innocently sends a mail order off for some Scandinavian glassware. What comes is Scandinavian pornography. The plot revolves around what is to be done with the veritable floods of pornography, photographs, books, films, and eventually girls that threaten to engulf this happy couple. The matter is considerably complicated by the man’s mother, his boss, a visiting bank inspector, a police superintendent, and a muddled friend who does everything wrong in his reluctant efforts to set everything right, all of which works up to a hilarious ending of closed or slamming doors.
Robin Hood & His Merry Men
A pantomime by Robin Bailes & Jonathan Hales, Directed by Jason Bakaas & Gad Gijon

Jim, a young girl, is desperate to join up with Robin Hood and become a Merry Man. Meanwhile the evil sheriff is up to no good, raising taxes and imprisoning Jim’s parents. He kidnaps Robin’s sweetheart Maid Marian and determines to marry her. All of which sets up the glorious finale when the Merry Men conceive a cunning rescue plan. A refreshing new take on the old legend, with Robin and his (very) campy followers, the Merry Men, two villians in the evil Prince John and the even eviller Sheriff of Nottingham, and an outrageous dame, Jemima Gusset. An enjoyable evening for the family with a hilarious mix of fun, music and adventure that is guaranteed to please.
Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)

Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) is an exuberant comedy and feminist revisioning of Shakespeare’s Othello and Romeo and Juliet. It takes us from a dusty office in Canada’s Queen’s University, into the fraught and furious worlds of two of Shakespeare’s best-known tragedies, and turns them upside-down. Constance Ledbelly is the beleaguered “spinster” academic, and unlikely heroine who embarks on a quest for Shakespearean origins and, ultimately, her own identity. When she deciphers an ancient and neglected manuscript, Constance is propelled through a very modern rabbit hole and lands smack in the middle of the tragic turning points of each play in turn. Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) is a gender-bendy, big-hearted and crazily intelligent romp, where irony and anger sing in perfect harmony with innocence and poignancy.
The Pirates of Penzance

Strike up the band for one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most beloved operettas! The Pirates of Penzance combines whimsy, light-hearted satire and piratical characters with stirring music, including the iconic “Major-General’s Song”. This is the play that cemented the comic-pirate theme in popular culture, a theme that has lasted through more than a century and spawned countless movies and novels. Jam-packed with sentimental, swashbuckling pirates, a completely dotty Major General and a bumbling bunch of hopeless but hilarious policemen, what could possibly go wrong? To add to the topsy-turvy nature of G&S, Morpheus will be flipping the genders of all your favourite characters.
