Morpheus Annual General Meeting Sept 12 at 7:00pm!

Morpheus Theatre is thrilled to announce the annual hosting of our completely obligatory, government mandated (via the Societies Act and our Bylaws) Annual General Meeting!

The AGM (for short) will be held Monday September 12, 7:00pm at the Morpheus Rehearsal Centre

3512 – 5th Avenue NW

Lower Level of the Parkdale Community Centre

We invite all interested parties, volunteers, artists, patrons, and curious onlookers to join us for this enthralling meeting where we summarize the activities of the past year (in 500 words or less), present the accounting of the financials, and elect the board of directors to another one year sentence.

Admission to all this comes at the unbelievably low price of only one Loonie.  (That is not a comment on anyone in particular.)

We look forward to seeing you there!

Morpheus Theatre’s Board of Directors

Contract Opportunity – Music Director/Educator – G&S JR Theatre School

Contract Opportunity
Music Director / Educator – G&S Junior Theatre School

Morpheus Theatre is seeking a music director/educator for its G&S Junior Theatre School program. This is a contract position beginning mid-October 2016 until mid-May 2017 (approximately 50 to 60 hours of classroom time). The remuneration for this contract is set at $2000.

The G&S Junior Theatre School works with youth age 9 to 17 to produce a Gilbert and Sullivan production each May at The Pumphouse Theatre, on the set of the Morpheus Theatre mainstage production.

The program began five years ago and since it’s inception has doubled in size–building a strong community of young artists while fostering a love for the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. Working within the spirit of community theatre, the program is inclusive and works to develop the skills of young artists in a safe, fun and inspiring environment.

The program has two classes running concurrently Saturday mornings from 10am to 11:30am (October to January) and 10am to 12pm (February to May). Two dress rehearsal and two performances will take place during the first two weeks of May.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a strong love of musical education
  • a passion for inspiring young artists to work towards their performance potential
  • an appreciation of Gilbert and Sullivan
  • experience working with and supervising youth
  • ability to play the piano and accompany singers
  • a current police information check/vulnerable sector search for employment

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Theatre School Coordinator/Acting Director to develop the course plan for the season
  • Facilitate weekly classes based on the plan
  • Work with the Theatre School Coordinator/Acting Director to deliver upon the vision for the show, select and teach the music for the show
  • Create preparatory materials for the students to practice
  • Ensure a safe environment and proper use of vocal techniques for all participants
  • Assist the students in reaching their potential

G&S JR Theatre School – Registration Deadline SEPT 1st!

PROFESSIONAL THEATRE TRAINING FOR YOUTH AGED 9 TO 17!

Morpheus Theatre is pleased to announce that for our 6th season, our G&S JR Theatre School program will be studying the operetta about fairies & parliament, PRINCESS IDA

In October 2018 we will be continuing to offer both a Junior class for students 9 – 12 and a Senior class for students 13- 17. The program gives youth an opportunity to expand their acting skills and challenge themselves with the lyrics and patter of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. The Senior class will also include more advanced acting skills and choreography.

Classes will include professional instruction in Acting and Voice, and the program will culminate in two youth performances on the set of our mainstage production for their family and friends. They will work on a full set with lights, sounds, and costumes.

Students enrolled in the program gain confidence & aptitude in their singing through learning the basics in choral singing:  tuning, breath management, vowel formation, good diction, posture and facial expression using vocal warm-ups, exercises, and homework.  The basics of musical sight reading will be taught, listening skills will be honed, and singing in harmony will be introduced.  The fun, humour and drama of Gilbert and Sullivan is a great way for youth to be introduced to classical music.  Group vocal lessons encourage teamwork and friendship, in a low stress environment!  All students will also have the opportunity to try their hand at solo singing, if they so wish, and the learning environment created will be positive and constructive.

DATE: Saturday, October 13 to Saturday May 18 10:00 – 11:30am
***No classes over winter break or holiday long weekends.

COST: Juniors – $375, Seniors – $425  (SENIORS ARE SOLD OUT)
